Conversations: Edition Twenty Two

Photobucket Continuing our weekly conversations...

The deal: Each Thursday, we announce a question of the week. We seek to ask questions that spark interesting conversations, whether it simply be about books, traditions, spiritual disciplines, more theological matters, or anything related to life in general. You can join our conversations two ways:

1. Leave a comment with your thoughts!

2. Or, if you prefer, post an answer to your own blog and leave us a link to your post so we can comment and add to the conversation. If you post on your own blog, you are welcome to use the picture above as long as you link back to us somewhere in your post.

This week's question...

Movies seem to be such a huge part of the life of an average teen (often believers and nonbelievers alike). Why do you think this is? And do you have any wholesome movies to suggest?

Comments

  1. Last month, I went to a pre-screening of the movie, Soul Surfer, based on the story of Bethany Hamilton. It was a great and inspirational movie that was faith-based. Carrie Underwood played Bethany's youth pastor. I would defintely recommend this movie as a wholesome movie that would be appealing to teens everywhere!

  2. I just saw Soul Surfer today! And I would definitely recommend it! At first I was worried that they would ignore the spiritual aspect of Bethany's life, but one of the first scenes is their church singing the song "Blessed be the Name of the Lord"! Yay!

  3. Oh. i thought that she was the surfer friend. Anyway, i don't know Carrie that much anyway.

Lucky pre-screener! i went there on the opening night. It was fun. Hopefully my youth group goes there! :)

  4. Two more movies that I would recommend are 'Facing the Giants' and 'Fireproof' both produced by a Christian church. I know they have at least one other movie out, but those are the only two I've seen. They're also coming out with a new one (I think in September), and I look forward to seeing it!

  5. Thanks, all, for the movie suggestions! I've seen "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof" (their other was "Flywheel" - their first) and they've had a very positive impact on my life.

As for "Soul Surfer", I've only seen the trailer, so I'll just caution you all that the girls will be immodestly dressed. Just wanted to make that clear. :)

And as for other movie suggestions, I have my favorites here:

  6. "Facing the Giants" is AMAZING, and I also totally recommend "To Save a Life" to any highschooler (some content is more mature) and "The Perfect Stranger" to any Christian who is unsure of what exactly they believe. "The Ultimate Gift" is a perfect movie for everyone (:
